Az Zour South CCGT2
Client: Ministry of Electricity and Water
Parsons Brinckerhoff Role: Owner’s Engineer
The Ministry of Electricity and Water in Kuwait is a longstanding client and Parsons Brinckerhoff has provided engineering consultancy services on a number of Kuwaiti power projects.
The latest, Az Zour South CCGT2, is a three-year project scheduled for completion in 2014. It entails the conversion of an existing open-cycle gas turbine power station to combined cycle operation. The plant is located within the boundary of a large power generating complex in the south of Kuwait.
Conversion is being achieved by the addition of five heat recovery steam generators on the flue gas discharge side of the existing gas turbine sets. Two 200 MW condensing steam turbine generator sets will be added with all ancillary plant systems, and there will be the related civil engineering and building works.
The project is being undertaken on a single contractor EPC basis by the local Alghanim International General Trading and Construction Company, and Alstom is supplying the main power generation plant.
Parsons Brinckerhoff’s role on the project includes design audit and project management as well as site supervision services.
