Hewlett-Packard Manufacturing Facility—Phase I
Hewlett-Packard’s 322,900-square-foot (30,000-square-meter) high-tech manufacturing facility is located in the Shanghai Waigoaqiao Free Trade Zone. Phase I of the development occupies an overall site area of approximately 6 million square feet (555,000 square meters). It includes a combined production and warehouse building, along with support areas including recreation rooms, offices, a cafeteria, a kitchen and an energy center.

Parsons Brinckerhoff was responsible for civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical design, as well as site supervision and monitoring during the construction stage. Civil/structural responsibilities included schematic design; review of design specifications; supervision of the local design institute; and review of construction documents. Mechanical and electrical services for the facility include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire services, plumbing and drainage, a compressed air system, a vacuum system, a demonized water system, a CO2 gas tank farm, a sewage treatment plant, an industrial waste treatment plant, lift systems, and 35-kV and 10-kV high-voltage power distribution and other electrical systems.

All civil and structural aspects of the facility were designed in accordance with U.S. codes, while complying with local statutory requirements. Mechanical and electrical services for the facility were also designed to international standards, including special requirements issued by the client’s insurer.
