Client: Changzhou Grand Properties Co. Ltd.
Parsons Brinckerhoff Role: Urban Planning, Transit Oriented Development Planning, Conceptual Design
Strategically located 99 miles (160 kilometers) north of Shanghai, in the southern part of Jiangsu Province, Changzhou Station will serve the 819-mile (1,318-kilometer) Beijing-to-Shanghai High Speed Rail line, one of the most important intercity links in the country’s high speed rail network. The station, which will be an important transportation hub, is expected to have a passenger throughput of around 110,000 passengers a day.
There is considerable potential for transit oriented development (TOD) in the vicinity of Changzhou Station, given its prime location. Parsons Brinckerhoff was commissioned to provide urban planning for an area of 0.7 square miles (two square kilometers) around the station. The firm’s services included conceptual building design, as well as a TOD plan incorporating three different zones—one for leisure, one for services, and one for technical and business activities—each containing features that match its specific function.
