| For more than a century, we've helped to define the technology that
has shaped tunnel engineering.
We continue to make important contributions
to the design and construction of tunnels for:
- Highways
- Railroads
- Transit systems
- Water/wastewater infrastructure
Our experience spans underground projects
from feasibility to rehabilitation, and we're
responding to the full range of our clients'
project delivery needs.
Writing the book on
tunnel design
From the original IRT line of the New York
City subway—the first extensive use of
cut-and-cover construction in the U.S.—to
Singapore's Deep Tunnel Sewerage System today,
PB is continually innovating. Our forward-thinking
seismic design for the Bay Area Rapid Transit
tunnel under San Francisco Bay enabled that
structure to withstand the 1989 earthquake
and resume service just 18 hours later.
PB's research and development programs have
produced tools of the trade: Our Tunnel Engineering
Handbook and Subway Environmental Handbook
are considered to be authoritative resources
for tunnel design worldwide. |
