In March 2006 we started work on delivering the Overflow Risk Management Program for the Water Corporation of Western Australia. The program will facilitate cost-effective investment in the corporation's wastewater conveyance system with the ultimate goal being to manage the risk of overflow to a level that:
- Is acceptable to the health and environmental regulators
- Meets community expectations.
The state of Western Australia, which covers an area of 2.5 million km2 (965,000 square miles), makes up 33 percent of the Australian continent. It is five times the size of Texas. Western Australia is populated by approximately 2 million people, of whom 1.3 million are concentrated in the capital city of Perth. The remainder of the state is sparsely populated, with an average population density is 0.79 people/km2 (2 people per square mile).
Our 3-year extendable contract for engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services will cover projects such as:
- Emergency overflow storage tanks
- Sewer mains relining
- Duplication of pressure mains
- Cathodic protection.
This contract, based on a collaborative working arrangement, is established for a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship for both parties. This approach will lend itself to innovation and an environment in which breakthrough thinking and good ideas will be encouraged to produce excellent outcomes.
