March 2001 • Issue No. 49 • Volume XVI • Number 1
Call for Articles

We invite all PB employees to participate in technology transfer and submit articles to PB Network. Your articles should provide an overview of a technical subject to appeal to a range of readers and to prompt them to contact you to explore ideas for related applications. The subject can be on anything technical, especially on our featured topics (see In Future Issues).

Please structure your article using the following guidelines:

Overview/Introduction. Why is this topic interesting?

Body of Text. Focus on technology transfer. For example:

  • What technical developments are new and innovative?
  • How did you go about solving a challenge on a project?
  • Did computers or other technologies improve the product?
  • What lessons did you learn on the project?
Conclusion. Point out the article's relevance. For example:

  • What does the technology or capability mean to PB?
  • What impact does the technology have on the project?
  • Was it completed on time or earlier, with lower cost?
  • What is the status of the project?
TO SUBMIT. Send (or e-mail) article, graphics, and disk to the contact person named or John Chow, New York 1-212-465-5249, chow@pbworld.com We look forward to hearing from you.

Guidelines for Graphics:
  • Formats. Acceptable electronic formats are bitmap, tiff, eps, jpeg and psd. NO OTHERS!
  • Resolution. If you send electronic artwork, it must be at a resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Embedded Artwork. Artwork embedded in a document is only 72 dpi, which is not good enough for print. If all you have is a screen capture, you MUST send the original screen capture file along with your article. The embedded artwork will ONLY be used for positioning, NOT for print.
  • Acceptable Original Artwork. Either 35mm slides, black and white or color, photos black and white or color, or 35mm negatives. If submitting printed artwork, please try to provide the original as opposed to a xerox. If that is not possible, please make sure the copy is legible; otherwise, it will not appear legible in the issue.
  • Black & White Preferred. Keep in mind, PB Network is a black and white document. If you submit color artwork that contains, for instance, yellow, the yellow will disappear when it is converted, red will convert to black, and two shades of blue will appear the same. It is best if you convert the document yourself so you can see how it will appear in print. If this cannot be done, we will do the best we can AS LONG AS WE HAVE A HARD COPY TO WORK FROM!
  • Hard Copy Always Needed. All electronic artwork MUST be accompanied by a legible hard copy sent to Laurie Ludwin, PB New York, Graphics Department. BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND THE TITLE OF YOUR ARTICLE.
  • Screen. If any artwork contains a screen (percentage of a color) or some intricate grid, please also submit a copy of the art without these and we will add them.
  • Questions. If you have any questions about graphics, please contact Laurie Ludwin at 1-212-465-5725 or ludwin@pbworld.com
