Project management from design to maintenance

PB and the City of Austin joined forces in a public/private arrangement called the New Airport Project Team. PB served as the project management support consultant responsible for:

  • General design guidance
  • Supporting construction management
  • Administrative support
  • Administering contracts
  • Maintaining a comprehensive management information system, project controls, and documentation system

The completed facilities include:

  • 52,000-square-meter (550,000-square-foot), 25-gate terminal
  • Upgrades to the existing 3,735-meter (12,250-foot) runway
  • New 2,750-meter (9,000-foot) runway and taxiway system
  • New midfield cross-taxiway system
  • New 3,300-space parking garage and at-grade parking for 7,000 vehicles
  • New airport rescue and fire fighting facility
  • 8 kilometers (5 miles) of new internal/access roadways
  • New fuel farm
  • New terminal apron
  • New central heating and cooling facility
  • New air cargo facility
  • New general aviation facilities
