Led by Project Manager David Tse, PB served as lead design consultant for Dhoby Ghaut Station, providing detailed architectural, civil, structural, and mechanical and electrical design services as well as project management services. PB also provided civil, structural and architectural design and project management services during the construction of the two commercial developments integrated with the station.
The Singapore LTA reaped the benefits of the design build approach, as PB coordinated the design and construction of the station and its above ground infrastructure to avoid claims due to owner changes. Because changes were kept to a minimum, PB was able to achieve savings in cost and time for this project.
Among the project's major technical achievements was accommodating the large drainage canal that bisected the station site during major excavation. Through efficient and careful space management, PB completed five years of construction without interfering with the use of the canal that serves as the main drainage system for Orchard Road. The canal now runs through the station, with maintenance access provided via the atrium of the office complex above.
