A Model of Sustainable Design
|
Dhoby Ghaut Station has been lauded for its design by the country's architectural and engineering community. In 2004, the project received the Association of Consulting Engineers, Singapore (ACES) Design Excellence Award and the Singapore Institute of Architects Design Award.
The station incorporates countless improvements that increase its functionality and efficiency. It is environmentally friendly, utilizing energy-saving measures such as electronic regulator ballast; indoor sensors for light regulation; radiant heat sensors; automatic adjustable blinds with solar sensors; and air conditioners using condensate water for cooling.
The lighting and temperature controls of Dhoby Ghaut Station feature innovations in sustainable design. The entire system is integrated, enabling control and adjustment of the indoor environment according to outside conditions. The management system controls the artificial lighting based on the amount of natural light streaming into the station, while lifting, tilting and adjusting the angle of Venetian blinds according to the position and intensity of sunlight.
