Praise from Tough Critics

When PB's EIS was awarded a 2003 Excellence Award from Engineers Australia (Institution of Engineers), the jury stated, "The jury was very impressed by the comprehensive scope of the study design and rigor of its quality assurance framework, and the high quality of the documentation of the report. The jury was impressed with the use of scenario planning, using brainstorming techniques, to ensure that all reasonable environmental risks could be assessed and public safety assured for the 250-year planned life of the repository."
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) rigorously audited the EIS and commended it, saying, "The EIS is clearly written and presented and represents a significant milestone in the repository development project. The International Peer Review considers that the envisaged disposal system will be capable of meeting internationally-endorsed safety objectives and criteria, and that there is a net benefit to be gained from the disposal of radioactive waste at the proposed site."
