When flooding and storms devastated several Florida counties in October 1995, PB had 10 inspectors in the field and a field office running in Palm Beach—within 24 hours. At project close in January 1996, 1,352 inspections had been assigned and completed.
Since then, nearly one and one half million inspections have been performed under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Housing Inspection contract with PB, where inspectors examine homes damaged as a result of Presidentially-declared emergencies and natural disasters. In response to the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, for example, PB inspectors assisted over 12,000 applicants in New York City—resulting in nearly $500 million in disaster relief grants to those affected by the attacks.
