The ballpark incorporates modern conveniences with a salute to the Reds’ heritage as the nation’s first professional baseball team. Cincinnati’s strong sense of pride in its baseball history is reflected in its design: in addition to a Hall of Fame Museum paying tribute to baseball’s heroes, the ballpark complex pays tribute to the Reds’ history.
The ballpark complex incorporates brick and steel into its plans, and sets the playing field measurements equal to those of the city’s greatest ballparks. Left field’s 100-meter (328-foot) length is exactly the same as Crosley Field, while center field spans 123 meters (404 feet), the same as Cinergy Field.
Bronze statues of great ballplayers will take their positions around a grass diamond in a .4-hectare (1-acre) public plaza named Crosley Terrace. A commemorative plaque will denote the exact spot where Pete Rose’s record-breaking 4,192nd hit landed. And in another nod to ballpark’s past, the Astroturf surface will be removed and replaced with Kentucky Blue Grass.
