PB, representing the owner and leading the joint venture team, provided program management consultancy services for the turnkey design, construction, commissioning and operation of Cairo Metro System's Line 2. PB's role within the four-phase project included:

• Evaluating tender documents
• Reviewing and coordinating the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of trackwork, rolling stock, and all electrical/mechanical systems
• Inspecting construction
• Testing materials/systems
• Developing and monitoring budget and schedule
• Experimental running of the trains and system prior to revenue service
• Carrying out operations and maintenance planning, training, and implementation

The resulting facilities include:

• A 19-kilometer (12-mile), two-track heavy rail system:
• 4.2 kilometers (2.6 miles) at-grade; 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) on an elevated viaduct
• 1.77 kilometers (1.1 miles) of cut-and-cover tunnel; 11.13 kilometers (7 miles) of bored tunnel
• 18 stations:
  • 4 at-grade
  • 2 on aerial viaduct
  • 12 underground
