Creating and Executing a Plan
|
The program provides a methodical approach to prioritize and fund thousands of repair and modernization projects throughout the LAUSD—at more than 750 schools and encompassing 6 million square meters (65 million square feet). PB also manages hundreds of local school telecommunications projects as part of E-Rate, a federal program that assists schools in obtaining affordable Internet connectivity. This experience was adapted to the LAUSD's complementary Safety & Technology program, which standardized hundreds of Internet connection projects at 730 schools throughout the district, at a project value of more than $800 million.
One of PB's earliest challenges was to assist the LAUSD in the development of a Strategic Execution Plan for more than 6,000 repair and modernization projects, including establishing construction schedules and budgets. During this time, a $600 million shortfall was identified and the PB Program Manager participated in a successful public information campaign that resulted in the passage of two additional bond issues that have provided necessary funding. A third bond was subsequently passed with a 66% voter approval.
