The overall TIMED program consists of 11 highway widening projects; improvements and/or new construction of three major bridges, including a new Mississippi River crossing; and airport and waterway improvement plans. As of June 2006, the program was 30 percent complete overall—five of the 16 projects are complete, 80 percent of the roadway projects are in final design or under construction, and construction has begun on two of the major bridge projects.
The joint venture will work to expand the remaining highways to four lanes: U.S. 171 from Lake Charles to Shreveport; U.S. 165 from Lake Charles to the Arkansas State Line; U.S. 61/LA 15 from Monroe to Baton Rouge; LA 3241/I-12 to Bush; and U.S. 167 from Alexandria to the Arkansas State Line. In addition to improved roadways, the TIMED program will benefit the state in the form of new jobs—8,000 on-site, 19,700 off-site, and 14,500 added throughout Louisiana. Better connectivity throughout the state will also lead to increased tourism and an improved statewide economy.
