News and Updates
PB has been selected to conduct the seven-month Chinatown
Access and Circulation Study, which began in early July 2003.
The study is surveying pedestrian and traffic issues, congestion,
parking, accessibility, and related quality-of-life concerns
in Chinatown. PB is working in conjunction with LMDC’s
partner agencies to develop a strategy for improving street,
curbfront, and sidewalk utilization in Chinatown, as well
as connections with surrounding areas. “Since its inception,”
says LMDC Interim President Kevin Rampe, “LMDC has been
committed to the Chinatown community and improving the quality
of life for its residents and business owners. The Access
and Circulation Study will be a vital step in accomplishing
this goal, as well as in the overall rebuilding of Lower Manhattan.”
Company 39 developed an interactive Web site (www.lowermanhattan.info)
that went on line September 4, 2002, to provide visitors and
residents of Lower Manhattan with information on transit,
safety, security, rebuilding plans and assistance, community
involvement, cultural events and even area history.
