Policy Statement

PB is strongly committed to ensuring an environment suitable for a meaningful quality of life for future generations. Consequently, we embrace both the principles of sustainable development—a more careful balancing of social, environmental, and economic concerns—and its fundamental goal of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We will endeavor to promote these objectives through strategic initiatives integrating the principles of sustainable development into the processes and outcomes of our professional work. Such initiatives will include internal training, ISO 14001 certification of our offices, an official reporting system, and other supporting strategies.

Strategic Initiative

For years PB has provided services on projects linked to sustainability, including renewable power projects, building projects that feature water and energy conservation and green construction practices, and environmentally friendly transit projects. Early in 2002, PB launched a global strategic initiative to focus and extend the company’s capabilities related to sustainable design and construction.

Our initiative includes:

• Training programs for staff around the world in technical methodologies that emphasize sustainability
• Regular communication and knowledge transfer through an internal Web site, internal publications, and an organized staff network
• Research programs to develop tools and processes that advance the state of the art
• Continuing efforts to “green” our offices and operations
